It’s 10th January. Happy birthday to me, according to Gregorian calendar. When you’re in your 20s, birthday doesn’t mean much. That said, I would like to take this opportunity to set my 2020 resolution.
This year I am planning to continue my education. I am picking the open source data science masters. MIT Challenge by Scott H Young is my primary inspiration this time. As I have mentioned multiple times already, I will be attempting CFA level 1 in June this year. Therefore, I have to balance the workload of data science accordingly. I will also explore the application of data science in finance. As I am already proficient in R, I am planning to further develop my R skills. The curriculum however is focused on python. I will attempt only non-language specific courses during the next six months while completing the R specialization in Coursera.
I have edited the data science curriculam a little to reflect my dislike of slide based MOOCs. I have focused more on classroom videos like MIT Opencourseware. Some quantitative finance has been included because that’s my primary goal. For the next 6 months, I have planned the following courses in the Data science masters path:
- Convex Optimization
- Multivariable Calculus
- Introduction to Statistical Learning
- Topics in Mathematics with Applications in Finance
I will take a break during May and June and focus on my CFA studies.
- Linear Algebra by Levandosky
- How to Solve It by Polya
- Statistics in a Nutshell by Boslaugh
Books I Will Read
I will read some books. I don’t want to commit to anything because in that case I will need to finish the books. I will start many but finish only those that I like. There is no point in predicting which books I will like. No point forcing myself through pages if I don’t like something either just because I made a resolution. So, nothing to see here.
- Reduce social media even more.
- Lose weight.
- Adopt more minimalist life.
- Reduce carbon footprint of mine.
If anything comes up, I will write here. Till then, these are my primary goals of 2020. Good luck to me.
